Off to a Winning Start
Thursday's win was the first of Stuart Gore's tenure as the head coach at Troy University. The Trojans had a rough opening 20 seconds that saw Lipscomb score to take a 1-0 lead. The goal, however, was quickly overturned as the officials deemed the play offside.
Troy settled down after that and played a strong first half but had no goals to show for it. That is until the 62nd minute, when Gabrielle Chartier found the back of the net off of a nice corner by Danielle Trovato. Chartier finished the night with three total shots, including two on goal.
Goaltender Une Hebnes Georgsen came up big all game, including stopping a shot that would have put Lipscomb ahead going into the break. She tallied three saves.
This is the first time the Trojans have opened the season with a road win since 2018 when they defeated Jacksonville 2-0 in Florida.
A Clean Slate
The Trojans look to find success against Auburn under Gore. Troy is 0-4 all-time against the Tigers, including losing its most recent matchup 2-1 on Aug. 26, 2021, at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Auburn is coming off a 6-6-6 season in 2022. Four Tigers were named to the Southeastern Conference's Preseason Watch List. The Tigers failed to qualify for its conference tournament last season and look to right the ship in 2023. They got off to a good start, picking up a point in their opener against Samford.
