TROY, Ala. – For the third time this season, a Trojan has taken home Sun Belt Player of the Week honors, with Tremayne Cobb Jr. the most recent recipient of the award, the conference announced Tuesday.
Helping Troy to a 3-1 week that included wins over Jacksonville State and Georgia Southern, Cobb Jr. was a big-time contributor. Going 11-for-16, he hit .688 in the four games to lead the Trojans. Cobb Jr. had 11 hits and 11 RBIs, scored seven times, totaled 18 bases, and had a 1.135 slg%.
In the game two victory over Georgia Southern, The Upper Marlboro, M.D., native totaled eight RBIs, hitting two three-run home runs and becoming the first Trojan since 2021 to have five hits in a game. Before the weekend series Cobb Jr. was hitting .266; now, entering Tuesday's midweek game with Alabama, he has raised his average to .303. Across the four games, he only struck out once, drew two walks, and was 1-1 in stolen bases.
Cobb Jr. joins Shane Lewis as the other Trojan to take home the award this year. In addition, Troy is the only team with three Sun Belt Player of the Week award winners this season. Cobb Jr. will look to continue his hot hitting when he and the Trojans travel to Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery Tuesday night to take on Alabama at 6 p.m.
