Sweep in Southern Miss

D'Aun Riggs and Taylor McKinney couldn't have been more efficient at the plate as Riggs ended the series with a team-high .556 batting average and McKinney went 1.000 in slugging percentage. Overall, the team went .325 at the plate for 43 total bases.
Explosive Offense
Despite playing in 38 games in 2023, the Chanticleers are playing in their sixth road game on Thursday night, having gone 2-3 in the previous five. Before Tuesday's non-conference loss to Charlotte, CCU won four in a row after outscoring the Soaring Eagles 18-4.
Tuesday against the 49ers saw the Chanticleers strike first in the bottom of the third after a pair of hits and a sac fly brought Livi Payne in for the run. However, Charlotte responded quickly in the top of the fourth, blasting four runs on a grand slam to win the game.
Iyanla De Jesus stands as the premiere batter for CCU and the SBC as she sits 10th in the conference in batting average at .381. She also ranks seventh in hits and RBIs at 43 and 31, respectively. Three Chanticleers also rank in the top 10 for homers in the conference in Diamond Williams (4th – nine), Delaney Keith (7th – eight) and Maddy Jennings (10th – seven).
Through the regular season, CCU has been elite on the offensive end, with the second-highest batting average at .314. They are also one of three conference teams that scored over 200 runs in 2023 with 207 – Louisiana (213) and Marshall (268). Since conference play started, it took a small drop to fifth at .280. However, an improvement to a 1.87 ERA on the field allows them to remain above .500 in conference.
