The Week that Was
Last weekend, the Dukes conquered the Trojans in a 2-1 series, naming themselves the first Sun Belt team to hand the Trojans a series loss in 2023. Efforts for a comeback were heavily influenced by Libby Baker and Jade Sinness, who both earned two runs in the final 10-7 game. Baker also finished the game going 4-for-4 in the batter's box.
Sunday's game was not the only time Sinness put runs on the scoreboard. With a .303 batting average, she racked up a total of five runs throughout the three games. Anslee Finch also gave James Madison a run for its money with a .883 slugging percentage. Overall, the team went .280 at the plate for a total of 37 bases.
Sun Belt Leading Team
Louisiana is looking to add Troy to its 9-game winning streak against Sun Belt Conference teams. The team is coming off a 16-5 series sweep against Texas State at home. A win at the Troy Softball Complex this weekend would extend their comfortable spot at number one in the league, with Marshall coming close at second at an 11-2 standing.
After defeating the Bobcats, the Ragin Cajuns gained a non-conference win against Southeastern Louisiana. Tuesday's game ended in a scoreless clash for the Lady Lions and seven victorious runs for Louisiana. Ragin' Cajun Meghan Schorman was a star player for the team, striking out nine Lady Lions.
Mihyia Davis, who rocketed her first collegiate home run against Southeastern Louisiana, will be a fierce opponent for the Trojans, having batted a .398 in 2023. With her first homer, Davis continued ULL's ability to knock them out of the park, leading the Sun Belt with 54 homers in 2023.
Outside of Davis, Laney Credeur leads ULL in batting average with the second-best numbers in the SBC at .433 – one of three players in the SBC with 400-plus. Creduer tops the charts for the Sun Belt in a plethora of categories, ranking second in slugging percentage (.806) and sixth in on-base percentage (.472).
