BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kady Schwietz, Biniosa Ezukuse, Ethan Womack and Javon Osbourne all claimed victories as Troy track & field completes Samford's Alabama Track Challenge with 11 podium finishes.
The heptathlon saw Schwietz get crowned after battling through seven events. Schwietz started the multi-events with a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles before taking silver in the high jump to move to second on the leaderboard. A sixth in the shot put, fourth in the 200m, second in the long jump and 10th in the javelin throw placed her third with the 800m event remaining. Needing 115 points, the freshman dominated the final event, coming across the line at 2:24.38 to receive 765 points, while second place Kyarra Newton got 630. The clutch victory propelled her to first place, 20 points ahead of the competition.
Fresh off her win at the USF Challenge, Ezukuse returned to the shot put event in dominating fashion. The junior grabbed the gold from her first throw at the 14.98m mark and held on through the event. She peaked on her third throw, hitting the 15.34m mark for a new personal best. She wasn't the only Trojan to finish in the top five as Abby Grosinske (13.67m) and Leah Kennedy (13.29m) followed her in third and fourth.
Womack found success in the 1500m event for the decathlon events. In the first nine events, the freshman managed two fourth-place finishes in the 400m and pole vault, finishing at 52.18 and 4.15m, respectively. He closed out the 10-events on top, collecting 667 points after coming across the stripe at 4:42.09 for first – finished fifth overall in the decathlon.
Sun Belt Men's Field Player of the Week, Osbourne continued his success in the discus throw. Despite fouling on the first throw, the sophomore recorded a 56.75m throw on his second attempt to secure first place for the fourth time in 2023. Osbourne led three Trojans in the top five as Anthony Symile hit the 50.19m mark on his sixth throw for third and Tayjo Oppong hit the 45.47m mark on his first for fifth.
Troy remains in Alabama next week when they travel to compete in the Crimson Tide Invitational on April 22.
