Women’s Tennis Toppled in Non-Conference Finale

TROY, Ala. – In the Troy women's tennis non-conference finale, Chattanooga got the upper hand, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
The Trojans (7-2) fall for the second time in 2023 and the second time at home to end a four-match win streak, while the Mocs (11-1) find their way to double-digit wins for 2023 on an eight-match win streak.
Troy was down early after double competition when Maria Guirguis / Valeriia Avdeeva and Andrea Widing / Olivia Elliott fell in their matches, 6-1, 6-3, respectively.
Kristina Kukaras fired back for the Trojans, tying the match, 1-1, when she dominated the first set, 6-0, and followed it with a 6-2 win in the second.
The following two points went the Mocs' way, 3-1, as Avdeeva fell in straight sets on court three, 6-3, 6-2. Widing was the next Trojan to topple on court six in her first dual singles match of 2023, 6-3, 6-3.
There was no quit in Hagar Amin on court two as she kept the Trojans alive with a 6-3, 6-2 victory to put the score at 3-2.
Elliott was in a battle on court four after falling in the first set, 6-1. She kept it close, forcing a tiebreaker set. However, the junior couldn't keep pace in the tiebreaker, falling 7-3 for match point, 4-2.
