Women’s Tennis Opens Sun Belt Play on the Road

TROY, Ala. – Off to its best start in recorded history after a 7-2 non-conference schedule, the Troy women's tennis program opens Sun Belt Conference play with back-to-back matches against South Alabama and Southern Miss.
The Trojans open on Saturday when they battle in-state rival South Alabama (10-1) at 10 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts before taking on the Golden Eagles at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the USM Tennis Complex.

Best Non-Conference Start in Recorded History
Troy ended its non-conference schedule with a loss to Chattanooga, 5-2, to end a four-match win streak that saw the team outscore their opponents, 24-1. At 7-2, the Trojans enter SBC play with the third-best record in the league for their best start in recorded history.
Despite the loss to Chattanooga on Sunday, Hagar Amin remains the only Trojan undefeated in dual singles play at 8-0. Behind her is Kristina Kukaras at 7-1 and Franziska Ahrend at 6-1. The pair of Amin and Kukaras also holds the best record in double competition, combining at 7-1.
Rivalry Time
South Alabama holds the best non-conference record in the SBC at 10-1, with critical wins over Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana and Murray State. The Jaguars' only loss came in their last match, 4-0, to Florida Atlantic.
Otoha Aoki remains undefeated for USA at 5-0 in singles, with three players behind her with one loss (Tereza Dejnozkova – 7-1, Luminita Tutunaru – 9-1, Chems Doha Zeghlouli – 7-1). However, despite the near-perfect start, the Jaguars struggle out of the gates, ending non-conference play with a 15-10 doubles record.
First SBC Matchup with Southern Miss
With losses to Lamar, 4-2, and Northwestern State, 4-1, the Golden Eagles ended their non-conference schedule at 6-2 to sit fourth in the SBC. Before Sunday's match against Troy, USM hosts Georgia State, where it puts a three-match win streak to the test.
Junior Clara Tardivel is the only Golden Eagle undefeated, with a 4-0 record in singles and a 3-1 doubles record to boost. Through eight matches, the Golden Eagles have a 67.7 win percentage in singles and 64.3 percent in doubles.
