Tough Showing
The Trojans enter the weekend eyeing redemption after a tough showing against Georgia Southern on Saturday that ended with a 4-0 sweep. After falling early in doubles, Kristina Kukaras / Hagar Ramadan Amin battled to tie their competition on court two, 5-5. However, court one fell before the pair could tie.
Singles saw three straight set sweeps on courts three, five and one, leaving Amin's fight on court two unfinished despite her fighting back to lead the second set, 4-2.
Up on a Mountain
The Mountaineers (4-4, 2-1 SBC) dominated their Sun Belt competition to open the league schedule, sweeping Arkansas State and ULM before falling to James Madison, 4-3, after Ellie Murphy dropped court six, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0.
Savannah DadaMascoll is the lead Mountaineer overall and in conference play, totaling an 8-1 record and 3-0 in SBC play. Her only loss came at No. 2 North Carolina. Conference play saw an uptick in App State's performance, improving to 4-2 in doubles and 9-3 in singles after non-conference saw them end at 10-12 and 18-21, respectively.
Tame the Herd
Like the Mountaineers, the Herd (8-5, 2-1 SBC) opened conference play with two blowout wins over the Warhawks, 6-1, and Red Wolves, 7-0, before suffering a loss, 5-2, to Old Dominion. The team inserted one more non-conference matchup between ASU and ODU, which extended their win streak to four before ODU ended it.
The Herd have had a successful season through 13 matches as Johanna Strom has dominated with an 11-1 record in singles that include wins over power-five opponents in Penn State, Kentucky, West Virginia and Cincinnati – first loss came against ODU, 6-0, 6-3. Aisling McGrane rides the longest win streak for Marshall, triumphing in her last four matches.
