Despite the shortened game three, five hits from D'Aun Riggs and Jade Sinness led the way for Troy against Texas State. An impressive defensive performance added to the feat as Troy limited the fifth-best offensive in batting average to 3.66 runs per game.
Four timely home runs also propelled the Trojans to victory in two of the three games. First, Kennedi Gaton knocked one out of the ballpark to take a two-run lead early in game one. Then, Libby Baker followed her in the bottom of the sixth, rocketing out a two-run home run that would be the game-winning runs.
Game two saw Taylor McKinney hit the game-winning runs when she put the exclamation point on a five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth. With Riggs and Gaton on base, McKinney sent it over the right-center wall to take the 6-3 lead for the win.
Gaton wasn't done on the weekend, providing the game-tying run off another homer to center field that brought in Audra Thompson in the bottom of the fourth in game three.
ACC Power
Georgia Tech (15-12, 2-4 ACC) looks to avenge its weekend at home when the team got swept by No. 13-ranked Virginia Tech by a combined score of 20-7. With a postponement of their game against Alabama State on Tuesday, Troy will be the first team to face the rebounding Yellow Jackets.
Wednesday night won't be the Yellow Jackets' first meeting with a Sun Belt opponent in 2023 after they welcomed Georgia Southern to Atlanta and walked away victorious, 11-3, in five innings. Tech limited Southern to three hits while rattling off 11 of their own to score 10 combined runs between the third and fourth inning. Georgia Tech also faced Georgia State back on Feb. 14, winning 10-1.
Madison Dobbins and Emma Kauf have had no problem connecting the bat to the ball through 25 games, being a two-headed monster at the plate with a .377 and .368 average, respectively. Sara Beth Allen and Mallorie Black are the most significant threats to knock one out of the park, combing for 50 percent of the teams' homers at 12.
