TROY, Ala. – Georgia Tech put up a pair of crooked numbers in the second and third innings to defeat Troy, 6-0, Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Troy Softball Complex. The loss snapped Troy's nine-game unbeaten streak.
Â
After a hit-by-pitch and a single to open the second, Abby Hughes took a 2-2 offering from Olivia Cato over the wall in left-center field to put Georgia Tech (16-12) up 3-0. The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases with a double and two more hit batters, but Cato was able to escape to limit the damage.
Â
The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the third with a two-run double from Hughes after a pair of singles opened the frame. Hughes continued her hot hitting with a double in the fifth, and two Troy (21-8-1) errors on the play allowed her to come home and score; she finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs in the game.
Â
Taylor McKinney, Jade Sinness and Kelly Horne all had hits on the night for the Trojans. Cato (3-4) took the loss in the circle after she allowed three runs on three hits in a pair of innings of work; she also hit three batters.
