Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to No. 75 Old Dominion

TROY, Ala. – Troy and No. 75 Old Dominion battled for almost four hours Sunday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, with the Monarchs escaping with a 4-3 victory in Sun Belt Conference action.

Troy (13-3, 1-1) led 3-2 with action remaining on courts four and five, and Old Dominion (9-8, 1-1) staved off two match points on court five and held off a Troy rally on court four to come away with the victory.

After ODU won the doubles point, Troy tied the match on court one as Mario Martinez Serrano won after his opponent retired – Martinez won the first set 6-1 and was up 1-0 in the second.

The Monarchs tied the match with a straight sets win on court three before Vito Llinares won 6-4, 6-4 on court six and Carles Anton battled to a three-set victory, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, on court two to put the Trojans up 3-2.

Jakob Cadonau and Noah Martens battled for three sets, including two that went to a tiebreak, on court five, while Yeray Andres Pastor and Codie van Schalkwyk also went three deep sets, including one tiebreak on court four, which turned out to be the deciding court.

Troy travels to Louisiana and Southern Miss next weekend.
