TROY, Ala. – Troy opens its six-match homestand with a 4-0 sweep by Georgia Southern at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Trojans (8-4, 1-2 SBC) have now lost three of their last four matches by a combined score of 19-6 as they allow the Soaring Eagles to grab their first conference win of the spring schedule.
Doubles was a dog-fight to open the match as Maria Guirguis / Valeriia Avdeeva fought with Lindsay Tulenko / Ninon Martinache on court three before GSU grabbed the advantage, 6-3.
Then, on court two, Kristina Kukaras / Hagar Amin stayed tied with the Soaring Eagles, 5-5, before Andrea Widing / Olivia Elliott suffered a 6-4 loss on court one to leave their match unfinished and put GSU up 1-0.
Singles saw dominance from GSU as it took the 3-0 lead fast with a 6-0, 6-1 win on courts three (Avdeeva) and five (Guirguis).
Match point followed for the Soaring Eagles on court one. Kukaras battled early but fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 for the loss, 4-0.
Despite the loss, court two had Amin standing strong. A loss in the first set, 6-1, was followed by a competitive second, with the Egypt native holding a 4-2 lead before the match ended.
