Women’s Tennis Sweeps at Lunsford

Troy, Ala. – To conclude the three-match homestand at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, the Troy women's tennis program completes the sweep, 4-0, over Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon.
Back-to-back wins for the Trojans put them at 5-1 in nonconference play to continue their best start in recorded history. The 4-0 loss for the Colonels drops them to 3-6 after their fifth straight loss.
Court three was the premiere one throughout the day. After Kristina Kukaras / Hagar Amin dominated their doubles match, 6-1, court three saw Maria Guirguis / Valeriia Avdeeva capture the 6-3 victory over Lipscomb's Liza Diachenko / Perri Howard, 1-0.
The wins continued in singles for court three with an immediate win after the first set when Avdeeva took the first set, 6-1, and her opponent retired from competition, 2-0.
Franziska Ahrend wasn't far behind her, beating Perri easily with a 6-1, 6-1 set sweep to put Troy up 3-0. But, court one was where the match ended with Kukaras at the helm. Down early in the first, Kukaras battled back for a 6-4 victory. From there, Kukuras sailed to a 6-1 win in the second set to clinch Troy's 4-0 win.
