Troy Gets Back in the Win Column Over North Alabama

Troy, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis program is back in the win column, defeating North Alabama on Friday afternoon in the Lunsford Tennis Complex, 6-1.
The Trojans (4-1) continue their hot start to the 2022-23 season as they capture the fourth straight win over the Lions (1-6).
Doubles went smoothly for the Trojans, with Maria Guirguis / Valeriia Avdeeva picking up the sweep to open the match, 6-0. On court two, Kristina Kukaras / Hagar Amin improved to 3-1 in dual matches with a 6-2 win, 1-0.
Courts five and six saw Troy dominate in singles. Franziska Ahrend put Troy up 2-0, easily winning her match, 6-0, 6-1. The momentum rolled over to Maria Guirguis, who defeated Ana Josic, 6-1, 6-2, placing Troy at match point, 3-0.
Freshman Avdeeva clinched the match for Troy on court three. She took the first set 6-2 before repeating the result in the second, 4-0.
Troy wasn't done putting points on the board, with Hagar Amin putting the team up 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Then, on court one, Kukaras lost the first set, 6-3. But, she followed it up with a 6-2 victory to force the extra set. From there, she dominated, taking the advantage early and holding onto a 10-7 win, 6-0.
