TROY, Ala. – Coming down the final stretch of the regular season, the Troy women's basketball team closes out the home part of its schedule this week with games against Coastal Carolina and App State on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The Trojans hold a one-game lead at the top of the standings entering the final four games of the regular season.
Thursday's matchup with Coastal Carolina is $2 Thursday with $2 general admission tickets and $2 soft drinks available for all fans. Additionally, the first 300 Troy students will receive free Goldfingers chicken, and the Troy Cheerleader seniors will be honored.
Saturday's home finale is Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Day, where all season ticket holders can request up to four complimentary tickets by contacting akay@troy.edu. In addition, free pizza and sunglasses will be provided to the first 250 Troy students. Before the game, Troy Athletics will honor the three women's basketball seniors – Felmas Koranga, Amber Leggett and Jada Walton.
On the court, Troy (16-9, 11-3 SBC) scored a combined 200 points in its two games last week to move up to fifth nationally, averaging 84.3 points per game behind just Iowa, Oklahoma, LSU and Utah. Additionally, the Trojans lead the country in rebounds (51.6) and offensive rebounds (21.4) while ranking in the top 12 nationally in free throw attempts (24.0), free throws made (16.7), steals (11.7) and defensive rebounds (30.2).
Despite it being late in the season, the matchups with Coastal (11-14, 6-8) and App State (9-16, 5-9) are the first of the season for the Trojans. Troy has historically performed well against its two foes for the week, winning seven in a row against Coastal and 10 of the last 11, while the Trojans have won 13 of the last 14 against the Mountaineers.
Tai'Sheka Porchia has transformed her game the last two weeks with four straight double-doubles, averaging 18.5 points and 13 rebounds per game during that stretch. Additionally, Makayia Hallmon has scored in double-figures in seven straight games, including a pair of 20-plus point performances.
Continuing on the offensive numbers, Troy has scored 75-plus points in 18 straight games, the longest such streak in the country, and have made 30-plus field goals in nine of the last 10 games.
Coastal Carolina enters Thursday's matchup having lost five of its last seven games, with one of the two wins coming over James Madison, which is just a game back of Troy in the standings. Aja Blount leads the Chants averaging 16.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
