Troy Men’s Basketball Heads to Ole Miss

TROY, Ala. – Troy men's basketball hits the road for the final time during its non-conference schedule as it makes its way to Oxford, Miss., for a matchup against top-25 opponent Ole Miss on Tuesday night at the SJB Pavilion.
The Trojans are coming off a 110-63 win over Southern-New Orleans last Tuesday at Trojan Arena.
Ole Miss and Troy have faced off five previous times. Ole Miss has won all five games, including the most recent one 83-80 in overtime on Dec. 22, 2015, in Oxford, Miss.
Troy has never beaten a top-25 opponent.

After a hard-fought loss to Dayton last Saturday, the Trojans answered back at home with a big victory over SUNO. The offense was once again led by Christyon Eugene and his 19 points. The senior from Spring, Texas, has scored in double figures in every game this season. Randarius Jones had 15 points off the bench on 7-9 shooting – a new career-high.
After getting off to a slow start in the first half and the first few minutes of the second half, the Trojans came out of the under-16 media timeout in the second half and outscored the Knights 50-17 – which also included a 21-0 scoring run.
High Powered Offense
Troy is among the best in the country in offensive production this season, as its 85.8 points per game ranked 20th in the country and second in the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans have three players averaging in double figures this season. Eugene leads the way at 16 points per game, and Aamer Muhammad and Tayton Conerway are each averaging 10.8 points.
As part of the impressive offensive showing through 10 games, Troy has shown its ability to run the court effectively. It's averaging 16 fastbreak points a game, which is the top mark in the Sun Belt and 20th overall.
The Trojans have generated plenty of second-chance scoring opportunities, as they rank seventh nationally in offensive rebounds per game at 16.30 – the best in the Sun Belt.
Against SUNO, Troy had five players score in double figures. Eugene had 19, Jones had 15, Muhammad had 13, Thomas Dowd had 11 and Theo Seng had 10.
Defensive Positives
While the offense has been leading the way this season, the Trojan defense has plenty of impressive marks this season.
Troy is forcing 9.9 steals per game, a number that is good for the best in the Sun Belt and 15th in the country. It's also forcing 16 turnovers a game, which is 29th in the nation and second in the Sun Belt.
Conerway leads the Trojans in steals this season with 17. Myles Rigsby and Jackson Fields each have 16.
Opponents are shooting just 41.6 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from 3-point range this season.
Non-conference notables
• Christyon Eugene is 11 points shy of 700 career D-I points.
• Troy is 14th in the country in rebounds per game at 43.0. That mark is good for third in the Sun Belt. Troy's +9.6 rebound margin is the best in the conference and 19th nationally.
• After a slow start to the season from the free-throw line, Troy has begun to heat up. In its last two games, Troy is 23-28.
• Troy had 53 rebounds against SUNO on Tuesday, the most the Trojans have had in a game since they grabbed 53 against Jacksonville State on Nov. 21, 2021. It's the second time this season Troy has recorded 50-plus boards in a game (51 vs. Reinhardt).
• Troy has 33 combined starts by players who had not started a D-I game prior to this season.
