TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team fought for all 90 minutes on Sunday afternoon but was defeated 1-0 by South Alabama at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Despite registering 13 shots – three on goal – Troy (5-8-1, 0-5-1 SBC) just couldn't quite find the back of the net.
South Alabama (11-0-3, 4-0-2 SBC) scored the elusive goal in the 37th minute when Gabby Hollar scored her ninth goal of the season off a cross from Chiara Singarella. The Jaguars had 19 shots, with three coming on goal.
Une Hebnes Georgsen started in net for the Trojans, and made one save and allowed one goal. Rubie Kelley took over at the beginning of the second half and made one save on one shot on goal. The save was a full-extension dive in the 69th minute to keep the Trojan deficit at one.
With nine seconds remaining in regulation, Tatum Tishler was booked with a yellow card for unsporting behavior.
Thoughts from Coach
Head coach Stuart Gore gave his thoughts following the game:
"We were gutsy today. One mistake cost us and that's what happens when you play a quality opponent. I thought we were superb in everything we did today. We worked great. It's one of those ones where it's like, 'Where has that been the past three weeks?' It shows we can do it if we grind it out. The tide is changing a little bit for us lately."
