Troy Women’s Tennis Completes First Day of ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Troy women's tennis team wrapped up its first day of competition at the ITA Southern Regional hosted at LSU on Thursday.
In the singles qualifying round, the Trojans had a combined record of 2-3. Valeriia Avdeeva defeated Tamara Bachmann of ULM, 6-1, 6-2, and Gabrielle Leslie defeated Giovanna Pereira of ULM, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 10-4. Leslie and Avdeeva each advanced to the second round of singles qualifying.
Honoka Umeda of Northwestern State defeated Olivia Elliott, 6-1, 6-3. Ksenia Reznitskaya of Nebraska-Omaha defeated Emilia Namyslo, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Valentina Vasquez of Louisiana Tech defeated Leena Metwally (TROY), 7-5, 6-4.
In the second round of singles qualifying Avdeeva fell to Zuzana Pavelekova of Jacksonville State, 3-6, 1-6.
The five Trojans who fell in the singles qualifying, now move to consolation matches taking place on Friday or Saturday.
In the first round of doubles qualifying, the Trojans went 2-2. The duo of Kristina Kukaras/Maria Guirguis defeated Natalia Mora Ball/Ariane Monello Sanchis of McNeese State, 8-5. Avdeeva/Elliott defeated Samford's Meredith Taylor/Alyssa Hayduk, 8-5.
Those two duos advanced to the second round of doubles qualifying set to take place on Friday evening.
Hagar Ramadan-Amin/Namyslo dropped its doubles match to Tulane's Brooke Theis/Sean Mullen, 4-8. Troy's Leslie/Metwally pairing fell to Alabama A&M's Yana Dhamija/Alicia Owegi, 5-8.
On Friday morning, Ramadan-Amin, Kukaras and Guirguis open their singles play in the main draw round of 64.
