TROY, Ala. – Troy Athletics celebrated its student-athletes' successes at the eighth annual Trojan Tribute award show Wednesday night in Trojan Arena.
Awards were handed out in 17 categories – including scholastic honors, Team of the Year and strength and conditioning recognitions – based on the 2021 calendar year (Spring 2021, Fall 2021, Winter 2021-22).
"This is a special year, this was a year that we returned to a sense of normalcy, this is a year that we saw championships and All-Americans," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said in his welcome address at the event. "I'm so proud. This is a chance where I can say thank you to all of our student-athletes for their hard work that you've put in. Not just on the field and on the court, but also in the classroom and in the community."
Softball infielder Adia Polk received the top honor of year, the Trojan Way Leadership Award. This award is given to the student-athlete who is the epitome of a Troy student-athlete and is the true definition of a student-athlete leader both in campus and in the community.
For the third consecutive season, the women's basketball team earned Team of the Year honors after being crowned the Sun Belt Regular Season Champions and earning a bid to the WNIT.
Football linebacker Carlton Martial and soccer goalie Lindsey LaRoche took home Male and Female Athlete of the Year.
Martial earned his third postseason All-American honor this season while also being tabbed a finalist for the Burlsworth Trophy.
Since 2000, Martial is one of just two players at the FBS level to record more than 425 tackles, 45 tackles for loss and five interceptions in their career – he has 436 tackles, 46 tackles for loss and five interceptions. He is the nation's leading tackler since the start of the 2018 season, with 442 tackles: 66 more than the next closest player.
LaRoche was tabbed a Second Team All-Sun Belt selection this season, her first nod from the conference. She started all 10 conference matchups for the Trojans.
The freshman tallied 45 saves inside league play over her 918 minutes of action. LaRoche allowed just 13 goals this season, the fewest by any team in the conference.
