Coastal Carolina Spoils Senior Day
5/15/2022 4:59:00 PM | Baseball
Prior to the game, the Trojans (29-21, 13-14) honored seniors Jesse Hall, Trey Leonard, Rigsby Mosley, Marquez Oates, Kyle Gamble, and Easton Kirk. Five of the six saw game action.
Caleb Bartolero and Kyle Mock were responsible for six of the seven Trojan runs, as each hit a three-run home run in the game. Bartolero finished with three hits, and Hall extended his on-base streak to 24 games as he also saw a three-hit afternoon.
For Coastal Carolina (33-16-1, 19-7-1), Austin White and Dale Thomas each drove in three runs, and Chanticleer starter Nick Parker (4-3) got the win after going five innings, allowing six runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.
It was a bullpen day for the Trojans, with Grayson Stewart (4-4) getting the start. Stewart only went two innings as the Chanticleers were able to chase him from the game after giving up seven runs on three hits with four walks.
Oates made an appearance and tossed four innings, followed by Keaton Fuller and Noah Janney. The Chanticleers scored in every inning but three.
A total of six runs were scored in the first inning of the afternoon's contest, with Coastal Carolina getting on the board first after a double brought in three runs. Stewart had loaded the bases with nobody out but had worked back and got two strikeouts and was one strike away from getting out of the inning before the double.
Troy quickly responded as Mock sent a three-run home run to dead center field 406 feet to tie the ball game.
Two runs in both the second and third saw the Chanticleers take a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the frame. A four-run game turned into a one-run game as Bartolero connected for the second three-run home run of the afternoon to make it 7-6.
The ball was flying out of the ballpark as Coastal Carolina added another run in the fifth with a solo shot of their own.
The Trojans looked to have a big inning in the sixth as they loaded the bases with nobody out, but a double play was turned, and Troy had settled for only one run.
Two runs in the top of the ninth for the visitors all put the game out of reach for Troy as the Trojans were held scoreless over the final three innings.
The Trojans see their longest losing streak in seven years as they drop their seventh straight for the first time since 2015.
