TROY, Ala. – It was a packed Riddle-Pace Field Tuesday night, but the visiting Auburn Tigers took home the win 11-4 over the Trojans, sweeping the season series.
With the loss, Troy (29-18, 13-11) sees their first four-game losing streak of the season after the Tigers (33-16, 13-11) use 17 hits and runs in three straight innings, including back-to-back four-run frames in the third and fourth to seal the victory.
Making his third consecutive mid-week appearance, Trojan starter Bay Witcher (3-3) picks up the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits in three innings of work.
For Auburn, Chase Isbell (1-1) earns his first win of the season after coming on in relief and throwing a scoreless sixth inning.
Offensively for Troy, William Sullivan accounted for half of the Trojan's runs as he finished the night with two RBIs on one hit. Troy was held to only five hits on the evening.
Center fielder Brandon Schrepf went on to hit his third home run of the season and second in as many games and scored two runs for the Trojans.
Following Witcher, Marquez Oates, Cameron Gray, Grayson Stewart, and Schrepf appeared on the mound. In 2.1 innings of work, Stewart allowed only one Tiger hit while striking out five batters.
Auburn got on the board in the second inning as a wild pitch allowed the first run to come home, followed by a sacrifice fly.
Five straight hits in the third inning, including a three-run home run from the Tigers, made it 6-0. The visitors would score four more runs in the fourth as Auburn broke open the game 10-0.
Troy got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Jesse Hall, with the bases loaded, was hit by the pitch to bring in his team-leading 36th RBI of the season. Sullivan followed with a deep fly ball off the left fence that scored two more runs.
Auburn added their 11th and final run in the sixth, with Troy's fourth and final run coming off the bat of Schrepf, who sent the baseball 380 feet over the fence to the fans in Double's alley.
Up Next: Troy continues their five-game home stand with a weekend series against Coastal Carolina beginning on Friday, May 13, at 6 p.m. This will be the final Sun Belt Conference series the Trojans play at home this season.
