Javon Osbourne Breaks Facility Record as Troy Places 21 in the Top-Five

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -Troy finishes the final day of the UAB Green and Gold - Invite and Multi with 21 top-five finishes as Javon Osbourne breaks the UAB Track and Field Complex record in the men's shot put (17.02-meters) on Saturday.

After three days of competition, Troy managed to secure 115 points on the men's side, proving enough for third place. The Trojans also placed third with 110 points on the women's side.

"We had some good performances throughout the three-day competition,"director of track and field Marc Davis said. "We have to be able to execute better across the board, though. There are glimpses of great performances on the horizon. However, consistency is lacking, and we definitely need to figure things out moving forward. There's a great deal of talent, but inconsistencies remain. In the last few weeks, we go into a sharpening phase. Typically, that is where we start to shine."

The Trojans had two victors at the meet in Osbourne and Naveyh Frost. Osbourne was the first Trojan to hoist the gold, and he did it twice. The freshman opened the meet as the first winner on the day in the discus event. Osbourne launched a 53.43-meter toss on his fifth throw, overpowering his competition. Next, the Jamaican native snapped the facility record on his final shot-put throw at 17.02-meters - former record was 15.05-meters.

Frost was the only female winner for Troy, conquering the women's 200-meter. The freshman sprinted her way to the top, coming across the finish line at the 24.35 mark. Just 0.32 behind her was Maya Kelly (24.67) for Troy, rounding out the podium in third. Together, the two Trojans claimed 16 points in the event.

In the women's shot-put, Troy took up most of the top-10 (4). Biniosa Ezukuse and Abby Grosinske found their way into the top five for Troy. Ezukuse maxed out her distance on the fifth throw, finishing at the 13.97-meter mark. Grosinske grabbed her longest throw on the fourth attempt at 13.26-meters.

The 800-meter saw two second-place finishes on both sides for Troy. For the women, Tanner Guest had the second-best time for Troy this season, coming away with the silver with a time of 2:16.55. On the men's side, Alan Johnson came just two seconds short of the win at 1:54.86.

Troy had four Trojans claim a podium spot in a 400-meter event (400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles). Kasia Cooper took home the bronze in the dash for the women, clinching six points for Troy with a time of 58.54. Jordan McCleskey grabbed his first podium finish in an individual event this season, coming across the stripe in second (49.30) for the dash. In the hurdle events, Jordan Mereus (55.72) and Donisha Jeanty (1:04.35) both crossed the line in third.

Alex Robinson finished in the top five twice on day three. First, Robinson did it himself in the 100-meter dash; sliding into fifth was a time of 10.73. Next, Robinson joined Eugene Vickers, Jaleel Gilbert and Quinest Bishop in the 4x100-meter relay as the last leg. With a time of 41.16, Robinson's relay came in third.

Five more Trojans came in the top five throughout the day. Julian Martin-Rogers (110-meter hurdles) and Teanna Cason (5000 meters) sat atop the competition in the track events. Martin-Rogers crossed in third timed at 14.45 in his event while Cason was fourth at 18:37.21.

Samara Nelson, Maja Kuessner and Jade Johnson placed in the top five in the field events. Nelson became the first female for Troy to throw over 40-meters this season in the discus event, having a 42.21-meter throw for third. Kuessner tied the best distance for Troy this season in the high jump at the 1.66-meter mark for second. Lastly, Johnson came in fifth at the 11.78-meter mark in the triple jump.
