Trojan Offense Explodes in Victory Over ULM

MONROE, La. – A six-run outburst in the fourth inning pushed Troy to a 12-7 victory over ULM for their second straight win and claim the series Saturday afternoon at Warhawk field.

Jesse Hall, Easton Kirk, Kyle Mock, and Clay Stearns all had at least two RBIs in the ball game to lead the Trojan offense. Hall joins Sterns and Cameron Gray as the only Trojans to have four RBIs in a game this season.

The Trojans (20-10, 7-4) never trailed in the ball game after Hall's solo home run in the top of the third got Troy on the board. This was Hall's second home run of the season and second on the road trip.

Troy scored six runs on five hits to break the game open in the fourth. The Trojans sent 11 batters to the plate, with Kirks' team-leading fifth home run of the season to begin the frame. Donovan Whibbs, Hall, and Mock all connected for RBIs in succession before Kirk came back up to the plate for his second time in the inning and singled for his second RBI of the game.

Freshman Brady Fuller (3-1) had his stuff working all afternoon in his third win of the season. In 104 pitches, Fuller set a new personal best with nine strikeouts in six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.

Warhawk starter Cole Cressend (3-3) only lasted 3.1 innings allowing six runs on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. With the loss, ULM is 10-18-1 on the season and 4-6-1 in the conference.

The game was blown wide open in the top of the fifth as Troy added three more runs in part to Hall and Mock again. However, those runs proved to be critical insurance runs as Mason Holt hit a three-run home run for ULM to make it 10-3.

Stearns responded with his own home run after smacking a two-run shot for the Trojan's third home run of the afternoon to get those runs right back, making it 12-3.

Four straight innings with a run for ULM made the Trojan bullpen work, but the deficit was too significant to overcome as Grayson Stewart came into the game and got two strikeouts in the eighth inning to end any thought of a ULM win.

Trey Leonard made sure to leave his mark on the game as well, as he has now had 14 straight games with a hit, helping the Trojans win their fifth game of the season when scoring in double digits.
