Trojans Come Away Victorious in Extra Inning Thriller

MONROE, La. โ ย A five-run 11thย inning gave Troy their second Sun Belt series sweep of the season as the Trojans totaled 15 hitsย and used four RBIs from Donovan Whibbsย to beat the University of Louisiana-Monroe 13-10 Sunday afternoon at Warhawk Field.
ULM (10-19-1, 5-7-1) battled back from being down six runs in the game's final two frames to send the contest to extra innings. But Troy (21-10, 8-4) didn't wavier in the face of adversity as they participated in their first extra-inning game of the season.
With zeros being put up by both teams in the 10th, William Sullivan and Kyle Mock started the 11thย inning with two straight singles, and Trey Leonard reaching on a throwing error set the table for Troy to win the ball game.

Easton Kirk's second hit of the game drove in the go-ahead run, and aggressive base running from Mock put Troy up 10-8 as he took off for home following a wild pitch just beating the tag. However, the Trojans didn't settle as Clay Stearns picked up his third RBI of the afternoon with a single, andย Whibbs'sย RBI single capped off the inning for Troy's 13thย run.

In a game where the Trojans used eight pitchers, Noah Janneyย (1-0) earned his first win of the season.ย Janneyย came on in the bottom of the ninth and got a crucial out to send it to extras.

Zach Shaw (0-1) gave up all five runs in extra innings and took the loss.
Theย Warhawksย didn't go quietly as they looked to tie it in the bottom of the 11th. After threeย walks loaded the bases, ULM was able to scratch across two runs after a wild pitch and single before Judson Hershiserย got the save.
Bay Witcher started the game on the mound, and in what looked to be the start of a big inning after ULM scored the first two runs of the game in the second, having the bases loaded and nobody out, Witcher got a much-needed double play.

Logan Ross came in for Witcher to finish the inning off and would shut down ULM the rest of the way. Ross went four innings without giving up a run while only allowing two hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

Troy responded, however, in the top of the third and cut the two-run deficit in half in part to Jesse Hall's sixth RBI of the series bringing in Rigsby Mosley, who got the first Trojans hit of the game with a single and stole the second to get into scoring position.

Moselyย remains a perfect 12 for 12 this year in stolen bases and is the only Trojan with double-digit attempts.

The Trojans weren't down for long after, as another big fourth inning gave Troy the lead. First, Mock connected for his fourth home run of the season to tie the game, and two batters later, Kirk hit his sixth home run of the year and second in consecutive days.

Troy's runs didn't stop as Mosley once again reached base and successfully stole second, allowing Stearns to single and add to the lead.

ย Whibbsย just missed Troy's third home run of the inning after sending a ball 400ft to dead center field of the batter's eye, which he turned into his Sun Belt, leading the fourth triple of the year, driving in Troy's fifth run.

With the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the fifth, Ross kept his composure and got three straight outs after a strikeout and an excellent diving defensive play fromย Whibbsย to keep the Trojan's three-run advantage.
Three critical runs for the Trojans came in the top of the eighth as it wasย Whibbsย again with a double and a Hall with a single, bringing in Mosley and Kirk.
Despite leaving 17 runners on base, theย Warhawksย erased the six-run deficit which included four runs in the bottom of the ninth, where Troy used three pitchers in the inning alone.ย
