SAN MARCOS, Texas – After coming from behind to tie the game in the top of the fifth, Troy Softball dropped a last at-bat heartbreaker to Texas State, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
Down 1-0 heading into the top of the fifth, the Trojans (27-17, 13-10 Sun Belt) plated a run in the top of the fifth to even the contest.
Logan Calhoun got the offense going with a one-out infield single. A batter later, Jade Sinness ripped a single to right field to put a pair on with two outs for Taylor McKinney.
The freshman then dropped a single into shallow right-center to plate Calhoun and tie the contest.
The contest started off as a pitchers' duel with both hurlers working around three base runners over the first two frames to hang a pair of zeroes.
Texas State (31-17, 15-8 Sun Belt) then struck first in the bottom of the third frame when Ciara Trahan ripped a triple and scored off a wild pitch during the next at-bat, setting up the last at-bat frenzy.
Trahan kickstarted the Bobcat offense with a single to centerfield. After Sara Vanderford drew a walk, catcher Caitlin Rogers hit a walk-off single to secure the series for Texas State.
Libby Baker (7-5) suffered the loss for the Trojans after allowing two runs off six hits and four walks.
Jessica Mullins (22-11) earned her second win of the weekend after scattering one run, six hits and striking out 10.
