PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- After two record-breaking performances the previous two days, Troy track and field completes its three-day meet at Franklin Field with a podium finish on Penn Relays' Championship Saturday.
Â
"I think we took a huge step this weekend," track and field director Marc Davis said. "We had some very good performances and big improvements across the board. We are two weeks out from Sun Belt Championships, so this upcoming week is all about rest, recovery and fine-tuning. I'm excited about what is to come and excited to see who is going to step up under the pressure."
Â
After winning their race on Friday afternoon in a thriller, the men's 4x100-meter relay team qualified for Championship Saturday. Kaleb Allen-Mcduffie, Jaleel Gilbert, Quinest Bishop and Alex Robinson put together a run for the ages on lane six, coming across the finish at a season-best 40.23. Unfortunately, the quartet couldn't complete the weekend sweep, but they came across second behind Morgan State by 0.04 seconds.
Â
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente, Maya Kelly, Vennessa Frank and Naveyh Frost also qualified for the championship race with their seventh-place finish. They followed it up on Saturday with the team's second-best time of the season at 46.81, improving their result with a sixth-place finish.Â
Â
Cole Stewart found himself competing in the men's javelin throw championship against 11 foes. Through his first two throws, Stewart sat in the seventh position at 63.56-meters. In the next four attempts, the sophomore fell to ninth with his fifth-best throw of the season.Â
Â
Troy has two weeks to prepare for their postseason as the team returns to action in the Sun Belt Championship on May 12-14.
