Troy Men Second, Locke Qualifies for Finals on Day One of SBC Track & Field Championship

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Troy men's track & field team sits in second place thanks to a strong early showing in the field events, while several other Troy men and women qualified for finals later in the weekend in Thursday's opening action of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
Cole Stewart and Marek Taskar set personal bests in the javelin to score the first points of the weekend for the Trojans. Stewart took home the silver medal thanks to a throw of 67.36 meters, while Tasker was just behind in fourth place with a throw of 65.10 meters. Morgan Reese added four points to Troy's tally with a fifth-place performance in the hammer throw was a mark of 56.60 meters.
Caroline Sall and Summer Williams put the women's team on the board in the 15,000-meter race. Sall took home sixth with a time of 40:36.88, while Williams crossed in eighth place at 43:43.83.
The Trojans have qualifiers in both the men's and women's 1500m finals, with Lance Wells and Lauren Locke posting the seventh and fourth-best times in their respective qualifying races. Alex Robinson moved into the men's 200-meter dash finals with a 21.22 qualifying time, good for sixth overall. Through four events in the heptathlon, Ines Garcia is just 111 points out of a scoring position heading into Saturday's competition.
