Trojans Drop Rubber Match to Little Rock
4/3/2022 5:02:00โฏPM | Baseball
Troy (18-9, 5-4) never saw the lead in the ball game, and Little Rock (13-12, 3-6) used three innings of at least three runs to pull away and hand Troy their second consecutive loss at home. This is the first time Troy has lost back-to-back home games all season.
ย
Rigsby Mosleyย andย Jesse Hallย each had two RBIs on the day, with Mosley having two hits and Hall walking three times and coming around to score twice.
ย
Little Rock jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after starting pitcherย Bay Witcherย (3-2) struggled to find the strike zone. Two walks to lead off the game were followed by a double and a triple to give Little Rock the advantage.
ย
Witcher seemed to settle in but couldn't get out of the sixth inning, finishing with a final line of five innings, allowing six runs on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.
Hoss Brewer (2-0) of Little Rock earned the win coming out of the bullpen giving up three runs on five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.ย ย
Kyle Mockย got the Trojans on the board with his second home run of the series and second in consecutive days. But troy didn't stop there as they continued to cut into the deficit with two straight doubles fromย William Sullivanย and Hall to make it a 3-2 ball game.
ย
The one-run lead for Little Rock didn't make it past the fourth inning as Mosley brought in the tying run with an RBI single, bringing inย Easton Kirk, who had doubled to lead off the inning.
ย
This weekend, the ball was flying out of the ballpark as Little Rock used the long ball to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth after a solo home run from Canyon McWilliams followed by two straight doubles giving Little Rock their fifth run of the game.
The sixth inning proved to be the difference asย Grayson Stewartย relieved Witcher, but Troy's third error of the game and two straight singles gave Little Rock a four-run advantage.
Ryan Pettysย came in as the third pitcher used for Troy and was able to get a strikeout for the third and final out.
ย
Troy again cut into the Little Rock lead in the bottom of the eighth with aย Seth Johnsonย RBI single and Mosley reaching on a fielder's choice to beat out a double play and scoreย Trey Leonard, who now has an 11-game hit streak.
ย
Little Rock capped off the afternoon by getting those two runs and more back immediately with back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach for Troy, making it 10-5.
Troy looked to have one last rally in them as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with nobody out. Hall was able to bring in the sixth Trojan run, but nothing more would come, and another comeback was not to be.
Up Next:ย Troy gets back on the road for four games as they travel across the state of Louisiana with a mid-week game beginning on Wednesday, April 6, at 6 p.m. in Hammond against Southeastern Louisiana.
