Sprint Medley Relay Record Breaks on Day Two of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- After Edita Sklenska broke the women's 1500-meter record on day one of the Penn Relays, she joined the women's sprint medley relay on Friday to snap her second program record of the weekend at Franklin Field.

Maya Kelly, Naveyh Frost, Vennessa Frank and Sklenska joined forces for the first time this outdoor season in the event for fifth overall. The quartet got off to a good start, hanging in the fifth position of their heat through the first 800-meters. In the final 800-meters, Troy pulled ahead to claim fourth, snapping the program record by over four seconds at 3:54.43 - previous was 3:58.62 in 2018.

The trio of Kelly, Frost and Frank subbed in Alejandra Gutierrez Fuente for the women's 4x100-meter relay, qualifying for the College Final with a time of 47.36. The team finished fourth for heat one and seventh overall - only nine teams qualified for the final.

The men's 4x100-meter team qualified for the College Final on their side, ending up on top of the leaderboard with a first-place finish. The team of Eugene Vickers, Jaleel Gilbert, Quinest Bishop and Alex Robinson had their season-best finish at 40.70 to become one of just nine teams to qualify.

Vickers carried his momentum into the men's 4x200-meter event alongside Marvens Merisier, Malik Dennis and Kaleb Allen-Mcduffie. On lane four, the relay team put together an impressive outing in Troy's first time competing in the event, finishing at the podium in third at 1:25.76.

The duo of Merisier and Allen-Mcduffie partnered with freshmen Bela Karn and Michael Marvin for the men's sprint medley relay. In the second heat, the team dominated, staying in second place from start to finish - enough to place sixth in the event at 3:31.54.

Javon Osbourne found his way into a top-five finish in the men's shot-put event. The freshman started slow with his first two throws, finding himself in 11th. However, Osbourne rallied on his third throw, hitting the 17.08-meter mark to rise to third. When the competition concluded, Osbourne finished fifth with his second-best throw of the season.Â

On day two, the women's team excelled in field events, with Maja Kuessner finishing sixth out of 45 for the women's high jump. Kuessner was just 0.01 meters from matching her season-high at 1.71-meters on her third attempt.Â

Junior Samara Nelson was the top Trojan in the women's shot-put with an event-high four competitors for Troy. On her second throw, Nelson hit her fourth-best mark of the season at 13.69-meters for tenth. Just behind her was Leah Kennedy in 11th, hitting the 13.58-meter mark on her first attempt.Â

The Trojans finish their three-day meet at the Penn Relays tomorrow morning as Cole Stewart competes in the men's javelin championship at 3:30 p.m.Â
