PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Edita Sklenska highlights Troy's first day at the 126th annual Penn Relays at Franklin Field, snapping her own school record in the women's 1500-meter run on Thursday.
Sklenska was one of just three Trojans to compete on day one of the Penn Relays, finishing ninth in the 1500-meter run. The junior's record-breaking performance of 4:21.94 tops her previous school record set on March 19 at the Tiger Track Classic - 4:25.02. In just her third time competing in the event, Sklenska was atop of her heat, defeating Temple's Laura Nicholson.
Morgan Reese found himself just one spot short of a top-10 finish in the men's hammer throw. Reese nailed his second throw of the event, hitting the 55.32-meter mark to place 11th. The sophomore's performance puts him fourth on Troy's season leaderboard in the event - holds top-six positions.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jordan Mereus ended just 0.98 seconds from his season-best time at 53.98. Mereus competed in the third heat of the event, finishing fourth in lane five. When the complete results came out, Mereus managed a top-15 finish at 15th.
The Trojans return to action tomorrow at noon as Samara Nelson, Marek Taskar, Javon Osbourne and Denzel Harper kick off the day in their respective events.
