Trojans and Red Wolves Split Doubleheader

JONESBORO, Ark. – After a 6-1 victory behind a stellar pitching performance from Brady Fuller in game one, the Trojans couldn't complete the doubleheader sweep as Arkansas State used a walk-off walk to claim the 4-3 win in game two Saturday night from Tomlinson field.
The day started with Fuller (4-1) pitching a career-high seven innings, only allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Rigsby Mosley followed with a sharp outing of his own, setting a career-high with eight strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched, only allowing two runs.
Clay Stearns had given Troy (24-14, 10-8) a one-run lead in the top of the 10th inning of game two, but four walks and a hit by a pitch to Arkansas State (9-27, 4-13) gave the Red Wolves the win.
Trojan second baseman Donovan Whibbs had a four-hit day finishing with three RBIs, while Easton Kirk blasted his team-leading seventh home run of the season in game one, ending the day with two runs batted in on three hits and one run scored.
Game One: The Red wolves were held to two hits in the game as Keaton Fuller finished what Brady Fuller had started. The Fuller's combined to retire the last 13 Arkansas State batters in order.
Kirk wasted no time getting Troy on the board as he launched a home run to the right field to put Troy ahead 1-0. A single and an error followed by a Bartolero soft ground ball but runners in scoring position. Whibbs made sure that they would not be stranded, bringing both runners home to score with a single.
Whibbs made it a three-RBI afternoon in the fourth inning with his second single, bringing in Bartolero, who recorded his first stolen base of the season to get into scoring position.
After a two-out walk came home to score, Arkansas State got on the scoreboard when Jaylon Deshazier hit a triple just out of reach of Trey Leonard's glove in center field.
The Trojans got that run back in the top half of the fifth with a Stearns sacrifice fly, scoring Kyle Mock. Then, William Sullivan added the Trojan's sixth and final fun of the game with a sacrifice fly of his own to make it 6-1 where it would finish.
Game Two: Much like the first game of the day, Kirk put the first Trojan run on the board after two errors by the Red Wolves that had allowed Sullivan to get to third and eventually score.
Another Arkansas State error loaded the bases in the second innings allowing Brandon Schrepf to pick up his 14th run batted in and double the Trojan's lead to 2-0.
Troy's offense never found its grove after allowing Arkansas State to tie things up with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Red Wolves had their chances to take the lead in the eighth, but Grayson Stewart (4-2) worked out of the jam stranding a runner on third, getting a double play and a fly out.
However, Stewart was credited with the loss when his walk came around to score the winning run. Tyler Jeans (2-4) gets the win going three innings and allowing an unearned run.
UP NEXT: Troy will wrap up the four-game road trip with a visit to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 26, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
