Trojans Drop Opener with South Alabama

Despite being down a run in the seventh frame, the Jaguars (22-11, 8-5) were able to score five runs on six hits to take the lead and didn't allow Troy (21-11, 8-5) to get back in the ball game the rest of the way.
After coming on in relief, Ryan Pettys (1-2) picks up the loss giving up four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Reigning Sun Belt pitcher of the year, Miles Smith (5-1) earns the win with 4.2 innings of work, only allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
After taking the lead in the bottom of sixth with two runs in part to a Kyle Mock double and Easton Kirk single, the Trojans wouldn't be able to get the offense going again.
Mock extends his team-lead nine-game hitting streak after going 2-4 and two RBIs.
Rigsby Mosley had another solid outing in his fifth game starting on the mound, only allowing a run on five hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
It was a pitcher's duel through the first five innings as Jaguar starter Matt Boswell also only allowed one run in 4.1 innings with three hits and two walks.
Mock got Troy off to a hot start with an RBI single to left field, giving Troy an early 1-0 lead in the first inning bringing in William Sullivan, who had reached base with a double.
The Jaguars evened the ball game in the top of the fourth when a leadoff walk came around to score off a double from Santi Montiel.
Mosley was able to get out of a jam in the top of the fourth after South Alabama saw runners on second and third with nobody out, but Mosley got three straight outs, including two consecutive strikeouts.
In the sixth, South Alabama took a one-run lead as Pettys was called for a balk with a runner on third and two outs.
That lead was given right back to troy in the bottom of the sixth when Mock picked up his second RBI of the game with a double down the right-field line as Jesse Hall scored all the way from first, just beating the throw to tie the game.
Kirk untied the ball game with a single, with Mock quickly scoring from second to give the Trojans a 3-2 advantage and their last lead of the evening.
South Alabama shut out Troy the rest of the way and added four more runs in the top of the ninth to secure the victory.
Up Next: These two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow, Friday, April 15, beginning at 2 p.m., with the first pitch of the second game scheduled for 7 p.m.
