MOBILE, Ala. - Troy opens its outdoor season with a massive victory for the men's team (163) at the Jaguar Opener at Jaguar Track, while the women come up short (third - 81).
" This was a good rust buster," director of track & field Marc Davis said. "Most of the athletes that competed today had not competed all of indoors. We have a long season ahead of us and a lot of work to do. We have two weeks to prep for a tough Auburn meet. We are going to put in a lot of quality until then."
The Trojans came out of the gates strong as Julian Martin-Rogers (men's 110m hurdles), Donisha Jeanty (women's 400m) and Bela Karn (men's 400m) each secured the victory in their events to claim 10 points apiece.
In the women's 400m, the Trojans swept the podium, with Jeanty taking home the gold with a 59.96. Zakeria Staples followed her in second and Le'nai Hunter in third with a 1:00.96 and 1:05.59, respectively.
Reuben Dotson came away with two victories for Troy, first capturing the close victory over teammate Saindeley Dorsainvil with a 1:57.15 time. He followed that with a victory in the men's 400m relay alongside Martinez Bogan, Karn and Jordan McCleskey. The team of four took it to the Jaguars, winning by 0:16.82 with a 3:22.10 time.
The Trojans took it to the fielding events on a mission, taking two podium finishes in the men's long jump with Denzel Harper grabbing the top spot with a 6.90m. Phillip Jordan grabbed a third-place finish with a 6.64m to secure 16 points for Troy in the event.
Cole Stewart and Marek Taskar continued to secure points for the Trojans, grabbing podium finishes in men's javelin. Stewart set the winning mark in his first throw, launching a 64.94m. Taskar improved with each throw, starting with a 54.70 before achieving his top throw at 61.74 for third.
Javon Osbourne finished the win for Troy in the men's discus, placing first and claiming the 10 points needed to win over USA, 163-159. Osbourne started with the second-best throw of the event with a 48.21m. Two throws later, Osbourne posted a 54.85, stomping the competition by over two meters.
