Track & Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season with Jaguar Opener

TROY, Ala. - As the indoor season concluded with the Sun Belt Championship, Troy opens its outdoor season with a trip to Jaguar Track for the Jaguar Opener on Friday and Saturday.

The Trojans take on Albany State, Southeastern Missouri and South Alabama to kick off the season.Â
Â
Fielding events start on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with hammer throw and concludes Saturday morning with men's high jump. Track events open with 100m hurdles at 11:30 a.m. and finish at 1:15 p.m. in the 4x400 relay.

How'd Outdoor Finish?
Edita Sklenska headlined the Trojans at the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships, finishing first in the women's 800m finals with a record-breaking performance of 2:08:34 - former record was held by Sklenska in the 2021 championship.

The Trojans also saw sophomore Ines Garcia post two to-five finishes en route to a seventh-place finish in the event with 3238 points. Competing in the Women's Indoor Pentathlon, Garcia took fifth in the 60m hurdles before grabbing second in the pentathlon 800m run (2:25.17).

Venessa Frank, Sklenska, Maya Kelly and Alexandria Rankin closed the night out with a 3:45.18 time in the women's 4x400 relay to claim bronze.

The Trojans had a strong showing at last year's Jaguar Opener, with the women finishing second (142.5) and the men coming in third (109).Â

Jade Johnson (triple jump), Maja Kuessner (high jump), Gemma Finch (2:11.53) all took hope first in their individual events to boost the women's score.
