Troy Completes Day One of Weems Baskin Invitational with Eight Top-Fives

COLUMBIA, S.C. -Troy Track and Field concluded the first day of the Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday with eight Trojans in the top-five - six podium finishes.

Men's javelin proved to be successful for the Trojans, having their only winner of the evening in Cole Stewart with a 66.01-meter throw. Marek Taskar joined Stewart on the podium, placing silver at 63.37-meters. Morgan Reese became the third Trojan to secure a podium finish in a men's field event, taking the hammer throw event by storm with a 50.73-meter throw.

Both sides of the Trojan roster managed to secure a top-five finish in the relay events. In the women's 4x800-meter relay, Tanner Guest, Lauren Locke, Katie Smith and Garcia Ines captured a third-place finish. Their time of 9:50.87 proved to be the only women's top-five finish on the day.

Turning to the men's side, Troy had two top-five finishes in the 4x800-meter relay. Alan Johnson led the way for a second-place finish as Chance Armstrong, Reuben Dotson and Justin Parham helped finish with a time of 7:49.71. Saindeley Dorsainvil, Ian Doughtery, Michael Marvin and Bennett Brake were not far behind them, placing fourth at 7:59.51.

In the men's 5000-meter run, Blake Vaughn topped the Trojans at 15:48.01. The junior's finish was enough to secure the bronze, just 16 seconds behind first.

Marvens Merisier was the final Trojan to finish in the top-five, competing in the men's 400-meter dash. Merisier edged his fellow Trojan, Martinez Bogan, by a mere .09 seconds at 50.15.

The Trojans return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the women's 1500-meter, and men's discuss events.
