Trojans Cruise to Ninth Straight Victory

TROY, Ala – An early one-run deficit was no problem to overcome as the Trojans went on and scored 11 unanswered runs to beat Alabama State 11-1 at Riddle Pace Field Tuesday night for their ninth straight win.
The win continues to match the 2006 Troy baseball team's win streak, which reached 11 games that year en route to a Sun Belt Conference championship.
The Trojans (15-5) saw plenty of production from the middle of the lineup as first baseman Cameron Gray and catcher Clay Stearns added four RBIs each to go along with Brandon Schrepf, who went 3-5 for two RBIs as well.
Making his first start at Riddle-Pace Field, senior Rigsby Mosley (2-0) earned his second win of the season after going 3.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits. After allowing the only run for the Hornets in the first, Mosley retired the next nine Hornet batters in order.
"I love going out there and doing anything I can to help my team win," Mosley said. "We have played really good baseball and were going to keep it rolling. I never expected to go out there as a starting pitcher, but it feels good to go out there and attack and get results for the team."
After a clean first two innings, the Trojans would settle in and get to the Hornets (11-10) starting pitcher Kevin Matos (0-2) in the third thanks to some heads-up base running by Jesse Hall and William Sullivan. They put themselves in scoring position for Schrepf, who brought them in to score with a double.
In both the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning, the Trojans broke the game open with four-run frames after a Gray two-run single and sacrifice bunts by Stearns and Hudson Hartsfield.
Troy had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth and was able to capitalize as Gray once again brought in a run with a hit by pitch, and Stearns cleaned up with his team-leading eighth double of the year to clear the base paths.
After a short rain delay, Seth Johnson nearly hit his third home run of the year but had to settle for a triple after it just missed going over the fence, and Gray capped off his big night with another single to give him a fourth RBI/
Following Mosley, head coach Skylar Meade made sure that his bullpen got work as Ryan Pettys, Keaton Fuller, Noah Janney, Judson Hershiser, and Marquez Oates all saw the mound.
Pettys got into some trouble after loading the bases in the fifth inning, but no harm would come of it as Fuller came on and got an inning-ending double play to end the only threat of the night for Alabama State.
Up Next: The Trojans see their first Sun Belt Conference road trip take them to face UT-Arlington this weekend, March 25-27.
