Troy's Nine Game Win Streak Snapped After Loss to UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas. –  The Trojan's nine-game win streak ended Friday night after falling 6-3 to UT-Arlington from Clay Gould Ball Park.

Despite a three-hit night from Cameron Gray and production from the bottom of the lineup Troy (15-6, 3-1) left seven runners on base and made three errors on the night, allowing UTA (7-14, 1-3) to pick up their first win in conference play.

Garrett Gainous (3-2) is given the loss after matching a season-low 3.1 innings pitched, allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

In his first start of the season, after two appearances coming out of the bullpen, the Maverick's Tanner King (1-2) got the win going five innings, giving up three runs on six hits, two walks, and striking out five.

UTA used a four-hit, three-run second inning to get out to an early lead that Troy would erase in top of the fourth.

A Gray single got the Trojan rally started, followed by walks to Clay Stearns and Seth Johnson, which brought up the third baseman Easton Kirk who plated his 14 and 15^th RBIs of the season with a double. After that, the three-run deficit disappeared, and Troy evened the ball game thanks to Trey Leonard, who hit a soft ground ball to second to bring in Stearns, who was running on contact.

The Mavericks responded and regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double of their own off the bat of Matt Lumsden, bringing in the go-ahead run.

Logan Ross would come on in relief and stop UTA from adding any more runs after getting the Maverick hitter to ground out into an inning-ending double play leaving the bases loaded.

Troy looked to tie it once again and was aggressive on the base baths, but the Maverick defense was up to the task as Gray tried to stretch a double into a triple and was thrown out at third.

A one-run game turned into a three-run game in the bottom of the seventh as the Mavericks got to Ross and doubled their lead, but Grayson Stewart came on and limited the damage.

Noah Janney came in as the fourth pitcher used for Troy, and UTA got to him in the bottom of the eighth, adding two more runs.

Troy looked to have one last rally in them during the top of the ninth after loading the bases with nobody out and the top of the order up. After striking out in his first three plate appearances, William Sullivan was able to bring in a run with a single giving life to Troy.

Following Sullivan, Jesse Hall looked to have a single up the middle, but a nifty defensive play by the Maverick shortstop turned a double play to stifle the Trojan threat and give UTA the victory.
