Sklenska Breaks Another School-Record in Successful Trojan Outing at Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - Troy Track and Field continued a successful start to the outdoor season after Edita Sklenska broke the women's 1500-meter record at the Tiger Track Classic on Friday, followed by 13 podium finishes for the roster.

"We had some good performances over the past couple of days," director of track and field Marc Davis said. "We showed a lot of promise as we move forward. Our schedule is very difficult. Next week we pack up and travel to the University of South Carolina, so the level of competition will not drop. Making progress and staying focused are key."

Sklenska competed in her first women's 1500-meter on Friday night, catching the Tiger Track Classic by storm. With a 4:25.02 time, Sklenska sketched her name in the Troy record-books once again, outing Belinda Bargmann atop the times by a whopping six seconds.

The record-breaking performance was enough to secure the silver in the event before Sklenska claimed fourth in the women's 400-meter.Â

Alex Robinson claimed a team-high three podium finishes for the Trojans, highlighted by a new personal record in the men's 100-meter at 10.53 for silver. He was joined at the podium by fellow Trojan, Jaleel Gilbert, setting a personal record of his own at 10.49 to claim the gold.Â

The pair of Trojans found their way back together at the podium alongside Bruno Boysen and Quinest Bishop in the men's 4x100-meter relay - finished second with a 40.81.Â

Robinson's third podium finish came with Jordan McCleskey, Alan Johnson and Chance Armstrong in the 4x400-meter relay. As the fourth leg, Robinson closed out the third-place finish at 3:17.16.Â

The Trojans found success in the 3000-meter steeple, posting three podium finishes between both sides. On the women's side, Lauren Locke secured a first-place finish with 11:30.64. Blake Vaughn locked up the silver for the men at 10:05.09, followed by Dylan Nelson in third with a 10:37.34.Â

Jordan Mereus led the Trojans to gold in the men's 400-meter hurdle, posting a 54.00 time. Latrell Murray joined Mereus with a third-place finish at 55.16.Â

Finishing the podium finishes for Troy was Ines Garcia and Cole Stewart. Garcia grabbed a second-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles at 14.54. In the weekend's final event, Stewart closed it with a bronze finish in the men's javelin for the 13th podium finish for Troy.

Coasting to the Carolinas
Next Friday and Saturday, Troy gets back in action, entering the Weems Baskin Invitational.
