MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Falling in all three rounds (Wake Forest - 4-0, Arizona - 4-0, Yale - 4-0), Troy winds up eighth in the 74th Annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Lagoon Park.
The Trojans (4-5) turned its four-match winning on its head, dropping three-straight on the weekend.
Facing the Demons
After a seven-hour rain delay, Troy opened its tournament play in singles competition against the 18th ranked team in the nation.
The Demon Deacons (7-2) dominated in singles, completing the sweep after Samantha Martinelli and Brooke Killingsworth took it to Olivia Elliott (6-1, 6-0) and Franziska Ahrend (6-0, 6-1) early to lead 2-0.
Finding themselves down 3-0 after Michelle Ncube fell, Anastasiia Khokhlova battled back in the second set after losing 6-0 in the first. But it wasn't enough in the end as Khokhlova took it to 10 before falling 6-4 for the match point.
Winless Against the Wildcats
The Trojans started the match Friday night before postponing the remainder to Saturday morning, with the Wildcats (6-2) already leading 1-0 after the team fell in doubles, 2-1.
Troy battled throughout doubles competition, taking all three matches to an extra set. Kristina Kukaras / Ncube walked away victorious, winning the team's first match of the tournament, 7-6, before finishing it off 7-4.
Once singles competition came around, the Wildcats made quick work of the Trojans as Khokhlova, Ncube and Hagar Amin were the first to fall, losing 4-0.
Ivy League Standouts
Entering the final round, Troy searched for victory over the Bulldogs (5-6).
Unfortunately, despite Kukaras / Ncube grabbing their second victory of the weekend, Widing / Khokhlova (6-2) and Ahrend / Dabarno (6-3) fell in doubles, putting Yale up early, 1-0.
Ahrend looked to have Troy's first point locked up after winning her first singles set, 6-2. However, it was the Bulldogs who secured the 4-0 sweep before she could, defeating Khokhlova (6-2, 6-4), Amin (6-2, 6-1) and Ncube (6-3, 6-2).
