Sklenska Breaks Sun Belt Record to Wrap up Track and Field Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Edita Sklenska wrapped up day two of the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships with a first-place finish in the women's 800m finals Tuesday afternoon from the Birmingham CrossPlex, in Birmingham, Ala.

With a time of 2:07.46, Sklenska took home gold while breaking her own Sun Belt meet record of 2:08.34, which she set at last year's Sun Belt championships.

This is the third time this season that Sklenska has finished in first place running the 800m event, with this time being the best of the three.

Also competing was Sophomore Ines Garcia, who saw two top-five finishes in the Women's Indoor Pentathlon. First, in the 60m hurdles, Garcia finished fifth, followed by a second-place finish in the pentathlon 800m run with a time of 2:25.17. Overall, Garcia placed seventh in the event with 3238 points.

To close out the night, Vennessa Frank, Sklenska, Maya Kelly, and Alexandria Rankin all represented Troy in the women's 4x400m relay and brought home bronze in the event finishing with a time of 3:45.18.
