BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With the game tied in the top of the eighth, Audra Thompson smashed a two-run double to down UAB, 6-3, Wednesday night at Mary Bowers Field.

With the matchup tied 3-3, Jade Sinness lead off the top of the eighth with a double to jumpstart Troy's extra-inning offense. Kelly Horne and Anslee Finch then drew walks to load the bases for Thompson, setting up the base-clearing double.

Kennedi Gaton then followed with an RBI fielder's choice to give the Trojans (5-1) the eventual 6-3 victory.

Leanna Johnson (3-0) worked around an infield single in the bottom of the eighth to solidify her third win of the season.

After a quiet first two innings, Horne kick started Troy's offense with a solo home run in the top of the third. For the second time this season, Libby Baker followed Horne with a home run of her own over the left-field wall to give Troy a 2-0 lead.

However, the Blazers answered in the bottom half of the inning when Faith Hegh hit a two-run triple to tie the matchup. Sierra Frazier then scored Hegh with a sacrifice fly to give UAB a one-run lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, Taylor MicKinney picked a crucial time to pick up the first hit of her career, sending a long ball over the deep center-field wall to tie the matchup.

The next three innings proved to be a pitchers' duel as neither side was able to advance a baserunner into scoring position, setting up the extra-inning affair.

Notable

The top of Troy's lineup shined with the first four batters all recording a hit (Jade Sinness, Kelly Horn, Libby Baker and Anslee Finch).
Leanna Johnson recorded seven strikeouts in the win.
Troy extends its win streak over the Blazers to three games.

The Trojans return home to play host to the Troy Invitational. Troy will kickstart action on Friday at 3 p.m. against Nicholls.
