FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In Chelsea Dungee's return to Arkansas on Thursday night, the Trojan women's basketball team fell to the Razorbacks 70-87 in a non-conference bout in Fayetteville to conclude a seven-game season-opening road trip.
The Trojans drop their second-straight game and sit at 3-4 on the year, while the Razorbacks have won their ninth-straight game to open the season. Troy starts the year 2-3 on the road and 1-1 in neutral-site games.
Dungee returned to Bud Walton arena after joining Troy as an assistant coach to start the year. Dungee is the Razorback's all-time leading scorer and averaged 22.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 32.3 minutes per game during her final season as a Razorback, and scored in double figures in all 27 games that season. The former fifth overall pick in the WNBA Draft had 18 games with 20+ points and four games with 30+ points.
Makaiya Hallmon led the Trojans offensively against Arkansas and netted a career-high 25 points. Her previous total of 24 was set against ULM while still a member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
The game started with a barrage of 3-pointers from both sides as two triples from Arkansas were matched by Hallmon and Jada Walton. Following the 3-pointer from Hallmon, Arkansas would extend its lead to eight points halfway through the opening period. Walton would nail another triple in the late stages of the first, but the Razorbacks would come away with a 10-point lead after 10 minutes of play.
The second quarter was not kind to the Trojans as the team was able to net just three field goals in the second period and scored seven points. Troy was, however, able to hold Arkansas to 17 points but trailed by 20 after two quarters.
Ja'Mia Hollings got in on the scoring action in the third quarter to keep pace with the Razorbacks. Troy received scoring from a variety of players in the third quarter, including transition-threat Janeen Camp, who converted on a fast-break layup with nine seconds to go to send Troy into the fourth quarter trailing 67-44.
With the Razorbacks emptying the bench for the majority of the fourth quarter, the Trojans were able to outscore their opponents 26-20 in the final frame of action. Late points from Tai'Sheka Porchia and Hollings gave the game its ultimate score of 87-70.
Troy will play its first home game of the season for its next contest. The Trojans will host Tulane on December 7 from Trojan Arena at 6 p.m. The Trojans went 12-2 at home last season.
