Women’s Hoops to Square Off Against BYU In Hawaii

TROY, Ala. – After suffering their second-consecutive loss, the Troy women's basketball team will look to get back over .500 on Saturday when they play the first of two games at the Hawaii North Shore Showcase. The teams that are joining Troy are BYU and Washington State.
For the second-consecutive game, the Troy Trojans will face an opponent that they never have before. The Trojans played the first instance earlier this week against San Francisco. Additionally, the game against UT Martin has the first time Troy had played the Skyhawks since 1992.
The Cougars are three games into their season and are yet to win a contest. They opened up the year at Colorado State before losing the next two games at home. Their most previous game was a loss to No. 16 Oklahoma. Troy, meanwhile, opened up with wins at Samford and at UT Martin before falling to UCLA and San Francisco.

Newcomer Tai'Sheka Porchia has lit the Sun Belt Conference on fire with her start to the season. In her most recent game against San Francisco, the junior netted a team-high 19 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Porchia added a block and a steal as well. On the season, the forward is averaging 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
Upperclassmen Ja'Mia Hollings and Jada Walton combined for 12 rebounds in the previous contest against San Francisco. Hollings got her first start of the season in that game and netted an additional four points. Walton, one of the team's best players through four games, tallied 14 points on top of her rebounding total.
For just the second time in program history, Troy will venture over the Pacific Ocean to the state of Hawaii. The Trojans are set to play twice on the Island. On the docket for Troy is BYU, who is yet to win a game this season, and they will follow up with a game two days later against Washington State, who, after beginning the season 3-0, was receiving votes in the national polls.
Troy will play game five of a seven-game road trip to open the season on Saturday in Oahu. The 2022-23 schedule has taken them to four different states, including Alabama, Tennessee, California, and now Hawaii. After Troy wraps up play in Hawaii, the Trojans will travel to Arkansas for a Chelsea Dungee homecoming that will mark the final game of the road swing.
