Janeen Camp was stellar in the paint for Troy on Saturday in Hawaii as she recorded three points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Tai'Sheka Porchia led the Trojans in rebounding against the Cougars, netting seven boards.
The Trojans entered the fourth quarter with a four-point lead over BYU. After a 3-pointer from Daniel extended Troy's lead to six, Troy held the Cougars without a point for more than four minutes of play. After Troy won the opening tip for the first time this season, Walton netted the first points of the contest for the Trojans. The offensive wealth was shared among a variety of Trojans in the first 10 minutes as Jashanti Simmons, Porchia, and Daniel recorded points. A late jumper from Sharonica Hartsfield gave Troy a four-point lead after the first frame.
The defense was spectacular for Troy in the second quarter. Troy limited BYU to just four points through the first five minutes of the quarter. The lockdown defense aided the Trojans to an 11-point lead after receiving baskets from Hollings, Shaniah Nunn, and Simmons.
The third period was the only quarter of the game where Troy was outscored. BYU was able to net two more points than Troy in the third. Two free throws from Makayia Hallmon after the media timeout of the third extended the Troy lead to nine, but the Cougars were able to diminish the Troy lead to five after 30 minutes of play.
The Trojans now stand at 3-2 on the season-opening road trip. Troy wraps up the North Shore Showcase on Monday night when they will look for their first victory over a PAC 12 foe in program history. The Trojans match up with Washington State at 5 p.m. from Oahu.
