Four Trojans ended Thursday night in double figures in the dominant 96-42 victory over MUW.
In the program's first-ever meeting with the Owls, Nelson Phillips led the way for the second-straight game with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
Troy was a formattable opponent on the defensive end to finish the Owls. As a unit, Troy limited MUW to just 28.8 percent shooting from the field, 13.3 percent from deep and forced 30 turnovers.
The game was never in question for Troy, who held the lead from the opening minute when Zay Williams scored a second-chance layup in the paint for the first points of the evening.
Winless in Week One
Florida State's start to the 2022-23 season leaves much to be desired. The Seminoles have faced two in-state foes in Stetson and UCF, losing both by a combined score of 151-128.
Cam'Ron Fletcher has been reliable for FSU to start the season. Through two games, Fletcher averages 10 points and 7.5 rebounds. However, in terms of efficiency, Camerson Corhen has been the top Seminole with 11 points on 69.2 percent from the field.
Free throws and rebounds are the areas Troy can capitalize on. In their losses, FSU shot 52.9 percent at the charity stripe and were outrebounded 90-57.
Season-Starting Stats
• Troy and Florida State will meet for the first time since 2018-19. Williams was a member of the team and played seven minutes, and scored two points.
• History favors the Seminoles over the Trojans, with FSU beating Troy by an average of 21 points through four meetings.
• The 2-0 start for Troy has the preseason seventh-ranked team sitting tied for second in the standings in the opening week as one of seven undefeated teams.
• Last season, Troy played one power-five opponent in Florida, which resulted in an 84-45 loss in Gainsville, Fla.
• Monday marks Troy's first game in the state of Florida. Last season, Troy journeyed to the Sunshine State seven times for a 3-4 record.
• Head coach Scott Cross emphasized rebounding all offseason with the team's lack of size. However, that was not an issue in the first week as Troy outrebounded their opponents, 43.5 per game to 31.
