10/27/2022 10:00:00 AM | Cross Country
TROY, Ala. – Following a two-week hiatus, the Troy men's and women's cross country teams are locked in and ready for the Sun Belt Championships in Foley, Ala. The women's 5k trek will kick off at 4 p.m. from the Graham Creek Nature Preserve, with the men's 8k to follow at 5 p.m.
Initially scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29, inclement weather in the forecast moved the championships up a day and will now be on Friday, Oct.28.
The women enter the conference championships after coming off their third top-ten finish of the season in the Blazer Classic as Tanner Guest paced the Trojans for the second time this year, placing in 19th in the women's 6k with a time of 22:32.10.
James Brake led Troy the last time out on the men's side with a 46th-place finish at the Blazer Classic. Mason Bennett and Dylan Nelson rounded out the Trojan's top-three finishers, placing 49th and 58th, respectively.
The Trojans will look to improve on last year's finish which saw the Troy men finish eighth and the women seventh. The women will be looking to duplicate the success of two years ago as they say a program best fourth place finish at the championships in 2020.
The meet will be streamed through ESPN+. Admission to the 2022 Sun Belt Cross Country Championships is free and open to the public.
This will mark the first time the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships have occurred in Foley, Ala.
