Trio of Trojans Advance on Day One of ITA Southern Regionals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Four Troy men's tennis players picked up wins, and three advanced to the round of 32 in the qualifying draw of the ITA Southern Regionals held at the University of Alabama on Thursday.

Noah Martens, Vito Llinares and Mario Martinez Serrano all picked up victories in their round of 64 matches Thursday to advance to Friday's action, while Francisco Erramuspe claimed a victory in the round of 128 before falling to his opponent from LSU in the round of 64.

All three Trojans won in straight sets to move into the semifinals of the qualifying draw, where two wins on Friday means a spot in Saturday's main draw. Llinares made quick work of Samford's Will Gray, 6-2, 6-3, and he is pitted against Jacksonville State's Alin Fatu for the right to advance to a deciding match to move into the main draw.

Martens knocked off Vence Ntche, 6-3, 7-5, from Alabama A&M to set up a Friday morning matchup with Southern Miss' Alan Sanson, while Mario Martinez Serrano earned his first collegiate win with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Alexander Gima from Southern Miss; he will take on Samford's JB Pickard on Friday.

Doubles play opens Friday afternoon with a trio of Troy teams in action. Carles Anton will make his debut at the ITA Southern Regionals Friday alongside Nicolas Simkin in doubles after he earned a bye into the singles main draw on Saturday.
