TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Noah Martens and Mario Martinez Serrano advanced to the main draw with a pair of victories each Friday during the qualifying portion of the ITA Southern Regionals hosted by Alabama to highlight another successful day for the Troy men's tennis team.

Martens opened the day with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Alan Sanson from Southern Miss before knocking off the top seed in the qualifying draw, rival Louis Delcour from South Alabama. Martens took the first set 6-3 before Delcour rallied back 6-1 to set it to a deciding super-tiebreaker third set, which Martens dominated, 10-3. Delcour earned All-Sun Belt honors in both singles and doubles for the Jags last season, playing on the top three courts for South Alabama.

Martinez Serrano, a fresman, knocked off Samford's JB Pickard in the round of 32 in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-4, before taking down UAB's Carlos Gimenez Perez, 7-6 (4), 6-2, for a spot in the main draw.

Martens and Martinez Serrano join teammate Carles Anton in the main draw, which opens play Saturday. Martens is scheduled to take on Gregor Ramskogler, Martinez Serrano will face his second straight Blazer in Roman Postolka, while Anton received a bye and awaits the winner between Auburn's Alejandro Moreno and Mississippi State's Petar Jovanovic.

Troy's other freshman, Yeray Andres Pastor, made noise in the consolation bracket with a 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 victory over Mississippi State's Patrick Lazo.

In doubles, the tandem of Vito Llinares and Martens defeated New Orleans' Espen Lagarde/Luke Jourjan (UNO), 9-8 (4), to move on to the round of 32.

Play continues Saturday with the second round of doubles action plus the opening two rounds of the main draw in singles.
