Troy Falls in Game Two to Texas State

TROY, Ala. – Troy's offense struggles to gain momentum as the Trojans fall in game two of the series, 3-0, to Texas State Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex.

Despite four shutout innings by Troy freshman Libby Baker (6-4), the Trojans (32-12, 15-5 Sun Belt) couldn't produce enough offense to even the series with the Bobcats (33-9, 14-5 Sun Belt).

With the loss, tomorrow's Senior Day series finale becomes crucial as Troy and Texas State move into a tie for second-place in the league.

Texas State's Sara Vanderford knocked in the first run of the contest in the top of the opening frame with a single to center that plated Hannah Earls, who led off with an infield single.

In the bottom of the second, Troy saw one of its best opportunity to score after Anslee Finch and Katelynn de Leon both reached with singles to right field, but both were left stranded.

After Baker worked around a walk in the top of the third, a fielding error and a hit by pitch put a pair of runners on with no outs, but the Bobcats' Meagan King (9-2) retired the next three batters to work out of the jam.

After a quiet pair of innings for either side, Texas State utilized two singles, a walk and throwing error to plate two insurance runs in the top of the sixth.

King retired the next five batters to be just one out away from securing the victory.

However, Logan Calhoun refused to go down easily, working through an 11-pitch at bat to earn a two-out walk, but was left stranded.

Baker suffered the loss for the Trojans after giving up three runs, six hits and three walks while King earned the win scattering three hits and a walk.

Troy looks to salvage second-place and the final game of the series in tomorrow. The Trojans will honor seniors Kynsley Rae Blasingame and Katie Webb prior to the 12 p.m. first pitch.
