Troy Track Looks to Continue Strong Spring at Crimson Tide Invitational

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans track program will continue its spring schedule this weekend for the Crimson Tide Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama.

The three-day meet kicks off in earnest on Friday, and will feature schools from Alabama, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tulane and UAB. Â

Day two begins Friday with the men's 110m hurdles before it continues with a large portion of the women's and men's field events during the late afternoon. Action shifts to the track after dark, with the 1500m and 5000m meter events getting going at 8 p.m.

The third and final day of action begins with the women's discus throw at 11 a.m. and continues with the remainder of the field events. The track events begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday beginning with the 4x100m relay.

The Trojans are off to blistering start to the 2021 spring, led by seniors Michael Alvernaz and Gemma Finch.

Alvernaz turned in a school record output of 66.13m in the hammer throw Friday. The mark was nearly seven meters longer than the closest competitor and was a new school record.
Â
On Saturday, it was Finch's turn to impress, as the senior won the 800m finishing with a time of 2:06.71. The time was nearly four seconds quicker than Finch's old personal best/Troy's school record.
Following the meet up in Tuscaloosa, the Trojans will return to action next weekend (Friday and Saturday) for the War Eagle Invite hosted by Auburn. Â
